Elvis recorded the country song in 1970 for his country album and went on to do the songs a few times in concert, as well.

It was Hank Cochran (no relation of Eddie) who wrote the song back in 1960 after a date at a movie theatre. In later years, Cochran said he got home from the date and wrote the song instantly - Garland, as his real first name was, wrote songs for artists including Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald and Eddy Arnold. ‘Make the World Go Away’ was also the name of his 1980 album.

The song was first recorded by Ray Price in 1963 and was then a hit for Eddy Arnold in 1965. After Elvis’ recording of the song, it was covered by artists including Dean Martin, Donny and Marie Osmond and Martina McBride.
